Jagmohan Dalmiya Elects as India cricket chief

Jagmohan Dalmiya has been elected chief of Indian cricket’s governing body, a decade after his first stint, reports say. He replaces the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief N Srinivasan, who was forced to step down for owning an IPL team. Mr Dalmiya is a former head of the International Cricket Council. He was elected unopposed at Monday’s annual general meeting with support from all BCCI groups. Over the weekend, Mr Dalmiya held meetings with Mr Srinivasan and Sharad Pawar – the two men who head the two rival factions of the BCCI. Last month, India’s Supreme Court barred Mr Srinivasan from standing as a candidate for BCCI chief while he owns Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings, citing a conflict of interest. The court, however, said Mr Srinivasan, who is the current International Cricket Council (ICC) chief, could cast his vote.
