Dr. Asim Case Govt Changed Public Prosecutor
KARACHI: The Sindh government Sunday changed Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the case of Dr. Asim Hussain’s alleged corruption and harbouring of terrorists, Samaa reported.
According to a notification issued following Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s approval, senior lawyer Nisar Ahmed Durrani has been appointed as SPP to replace Mushtaq Jahangiri.
The change of prosecutor comes a day after Rangers filed a petition in Sindh High Court requesting the court to restrain Sindh government from changing SPP Jahangiri in the high profile case.
The move is likely to deepen row between PPP-led provincial government and the paramilitary force over trial of Dr. Asim Hussain who is a former federal minister, a leader of PPP and close confidante of former president Asif Zardari.
Sources said the change of prosecutor might lead to release of Dr. Asim Hussain who is facing charges of corruption and treatment of terrorists at his hospital.
He was detained on August 26 by officials of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Rangers in multiple cases of corruption and terror financing. The accused has spent three months in Rangers custody and later remained in police and NAB custody. – Samaa
